Melanie Houston is the Director of Water Policy & Environmental Health at the Ohio Environmental Council. She is responsible for establishing and managing statewide policy initiatives for the OEC related to water and environmental health. Specifically, Melanie works on policy, regulation, and public outreach and education related to fracking in Ohio. She administers a National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Grant at the OEC, which provides funding for educational forums on environmental releases. Melanie also is the state lead campaign organizer for the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition, which is a national effort to protect families from toxic chemicals. Melanie has a background in non-profit administration and environmental social science research. She earned a bachelor of arts in Environmental Studies from Denison University and a master of science from The Ohio State University, where she completed her master’s thesis on trends in public attitudes toward wolves over time and across geographical regions.
