Susan Tullai-McGuinness, MPA, PhD, RN, retired from the Frances Payne Bolton School Nursing (FPB) at Case Western Reserve University. She now holds an adjunct position at a few universities and usually teaches health policy to graduate nursing students. Susan is an active member of the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA) and American Nurses Associations (ANA). She currently serves on ONA’s Health Policy Committee and has chaired the ANA Congress of Nursing Practice & Economics (CNPE).During her tenure on the CNPE, her support for ANA’s adoption of the precautionary principle lead her to become active with Health Care Without Harm’s nurse work group. Her interest in environmental advocacy expanded when she collaborated with other Ohio nurses to form the Nurses Environmental Advocacy Team for Ohio (NEATO). Susan has attended ANA’s advocacy training and has made visits to federal and state legislators with Safer Chemicals Health Families, Union of Concerned Scientists and the Ohio Environmental Council. Susan has served on a number of nonprofit boards in Lake County,Ohio and currently serves on a health system board. In 2012, Susan ran for the Ohio House of Representatives. Though she fell short of votes, she developed many political connections.
